Most hated thing in my life? Falling off my horse. I HATE THAT! Haven't done in it some years, until this afternoon. In front of witnesses. Grrrr! By the time my butt hit the ground, he was stopped. He never left my side because I had a death grip on the reins. Consequently, my left hand has rope burns on three fingers, my palm and thumb.

Max And His Place

We wrapped up Max's play yard on Saturday. Finally had stopped raining, but was chilly and blustery and mostly cloudy. If it had been cooler we would have had snow flurries.

We rolled out 100 feet of the wire mesh and wrestled it onto the posts on the horse-side of his yard. Nailed on the face boards so the horses wouldn't get 'stuck' with any of the wire twists.

Stained the gate, which he put together from scratch, to match the barn.

Max is getting acquainted with the pieces of agility equipment. He's not the sharpest tool in the shed, so it takes him several times to get the message. When he does figure it out he's very pleased with himself.

Max's Place

Sounds like a pub or something, right? We've gone around, and around, and finally came to the workable solution for Max's protected area. I had an idea of what I wanted, he had an idea of what he wanted, and they were not the same. Not even close.

So, no compromise. Neither of use was budging, so nothing was moving forward. Had the lumber, some of the posts, but nothing in the works.

Finally, finally we came to a good solution, and have been working furiously to complete the 60 x 100 foot fenced-in and fortified play area for Max.

Enough room to place the agility equipment and Frisbee field, too. We're excited, and Max has no idea of the freedom and entertainment that this will afford him. Lucky Dog!

Finished - FINALLY (not really)

Got the gate hung, now new dry paddock is secured. Topped the gravel with stonedust. Dug the square hole for the gate post by hand. It was in a tight spot, and he was just doing a small pilot hole, to see if it was obstructed by rocks, roots, concrete, or anything. It was not, so we dug it with a pry-bar and post-hole digger.

Skip and KC inspected the new shed and love the windows. And it's so roomy!! Only a couple things to tweak but technically finished.

Next up. Max's fenced in area.

October Arrives

Daylight is slipping away. Getting dark so early, we have to hurry around the place, watch a spectacular sunset, and then it is done.

Our next 'big' project is installing fencing for Max, the resident dog. He's now an only child and has focus issues. That has nothing to do with his eyesight. He has seriously high prey-drive and is always on high alert when Irene is up and about. He has never hurt her, although sometimes his nose has scabs.

He is not trustworthy with the horses, either. If they move, he lunges and barks. He will be three in December.

Our next project is to fence in a 60 x 100 foot area, with the traditional 4-board oak fencing, 8-foot on center, but install wire mesh between the boards and the face board. No climb style. Hopefully he won't jump out of it all together; if he does we'll have to put him in special training.

This area will have enough room for Frisbee, which he was pretty good at when he was a puppy, and to set up our old dog-agility equipment. He needs more exercise with direction, and can't be off-leash because of his 'focus' issues.
